Sue Busch Memorial Awards Announced
Ten veterinary technology students were chosen to receive 2009 Sue J. Busch Memorial Awards, administered by the Pet Care Trust (Washington), for devoting significant time and energy to improving the health of companion animals.
Each student received a $500 award:
- Bailey Brewington from North Carolina’s Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College.
- Rachel Weidele, a student at Massachusetts’ Becker College.
- Vanessa Padilla, a student at Florida’s Brevard Community College.
- Nadia Sureda, a student at California’s Cosumnes River College.
- Mary Beth Boland, a student at Pennsylvania’s Harcum College.
- Christine Fraser, a student at New York’s Mercy College.
- Crystal Madison, a student at South Dakota’s National American University.
- Stacey Zuniga, a student at Pennsylvania’s Northampton Community College.
- Kish Mackin Hilmert, a student at North Dakota State University.
- Jessica Comolli, a student at South Carolina’s Tri-County Technical College.
“These 10 graduating veterinary technician students represent an elite group of individuals who have expressed an interest in companion animals and displayed a dedication to their practice through community service related to animals,” said Lew Sutton, president of The Pet Care Trust.
The scholarship awards commemorate the late Sue J. Busch, former president of H.H. Backer Associates Inc. (Chicago), which publishes PET AGE magazine and produces the Pet Industry Spring and Pet Industry Christmas Trade Shows.
