Fish in the Classroom Program Moves Forward

The Pet Care Trust’s Fish in the Classroom Program recently completed another round of teacher training in conjunction with the Florida Aquarium in Tampa, meeting its goal of training 25 teachers in Florida’s Pinellas and Hillsborough counties during the 2008-2009 school year.

The outreach program from the Washington-based Pet Care Trust is designed to educate grade school students on fish and fish care and provide positive experiences that will help increase fish ownership among a new generation.

Fish in the Classroom expanded to the Midwest in July, partnering with the Shedd Aquarium and the Big Shoulders Fund in Chicago to train 50 teachers in the 2009-2010 school year.

Fish in the Classroom will return to the Florida Aquarium this fall, targeting teachers in Title I schools with underserved students. [August 2009 PET AGE]
