PetSmart Charities Helps Midwest Flood Victims

PetSmart Charities (Phoenix) delivered hundreds of pet crates, bowls, collars, leads and more than 4 tons of cat litter to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in June to help pets displaced by widespread flooding.

PetSmart Charities dispatched two semi-trailers carrying 26 pallets of pet food and supplies, including 450 crates, 120 dog collars and leads, 510 food bowls, 288 litter pans and 8,046 pounds of cat litter to Cedar Rapids, and six pallets of supplies to Iowa City, Iowa—among the cities hardest hit by the June floods.

The organization also coordinated donations to humane societies and shelters in Indiana and Wisconsin.

We introduced our Emergency Relief Waggin’ program in March 2007 to assist the animal victims of natural or manmade disasters,” said Susana Della Maddalena, vice president and executive director PetSmart Charities. “We want to do our part to help the animal victims of the Midwest flooding disaster, and we understand that pet lovers throughout the United States want to help, too. Thanks to our Emergency Relief program, we will continue to respond to pets’ needs throughout this ordeal.” [August 2008 PET AGE]
