Global Pet Food Market Is Increasing
Aquarama Celebrates 10th Year
Nearly 5,000 trade visitors and nearly 18,000 public visitors viewed the wares of dozens of international aquarium companies during Aquarama 2007—the biennial show’s 10th anniversary edition—held May 24-27 at the Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre in the heart of Singapore’s Central Business District, a new venue for the show.
Organized by CMP Asia Trade Fairs Pte. Ltd., the exhibition of ornamental fish and accessories took place in conjunction with Pet Asia 2007 and Intergarden 2007, allowing vendors of aquarium-specific, pet and water garden markets to display their goods under one roof. According to show organizers, approximately 200 companies from 27 countries participated in the show, compared with more than 230 companies from 25 countries at its 2005 edition.
Special delegations from Scandinavia, Japan and Vietnam added new dimensions to the event, as did pavilions for vendors from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Ornamental Fish International.
Setting a record, the international fish competition drew more than 1,500 entries from 18 countries. A panel of 47 experts from around the world judged entries in 13 species categories.
New to the show, the planted tank competition showcased 3-foot tanks decorated with aquatic plants.
Other highlights included a marine tank competition.
“While obviously being delighted with this year’s results, we have—as always—learned some very important lessons as a result of having moved to Suntec, and are already working on them,” said Jean Oh, general manager for the event. “As a result, we plan to make Aquarama 2009 even more attractive and successful, both for our visitors as well as our loyal band of established exhibitors, plus all the new ones who will, hopefully, be joining us in the months ahead.”
