PIDA Plans
Online Training for Retailers
The Pet Industry Distributors Association (Bel Air, Md.) just
signed an agreement to develop a comprehensive online training
program for pet store managers and employees, and expects to
launch the first training modules in January 2007.
PIDA is working with the North American Retail Hardware Association
(Indianapolis) to develop the program. NRHA’s basic
training site for retail hardware stores, operational since
August 2005, has trained more than 3,000 students.
“This is one of the most exciting and ambitious programs
that the pet industry has undertaken,” said Perry Parks,
chairman of PIDA’s Retail Training Task Force. “Distributors
have a vested interest in seeing their retailer customers
succeed. This program gives pet stores the tools they need
to train their employees in the most efficient and cost-effective
means available today.”
Mort Brown, a retail consultant and author of So You Want
to Own the Store: Secrets to Running a Successful Retail Operation,
is assisting with the program’s development. Brown also
owns Cindi’s Pet & Aquarium Center (Vero Beach,
Fla.). [July 2006 PET AGE]
