Pet Foods Get High Marks
Pet owners are confident in the safety and quality of the foods
they feed their dogs and cats, according to new research by
the Pet Food Institute (Washington).
A whopping 97 percent of respondents said the pet foods they
choose are safe, citing trusted brand names, good nutrition
and a long track record of safety as the primary reasons for
their confidence.
Pet food buyers also are satisfied with the information they
find on pet food labels. Nine out of 10 respondents (92 percent)
said no additional information was needed on pet food labels.
They described product labels as “easy to understand,”
“helpful” and “complete.” However,
only 46 percent of respondents said they read pet food labels
often.
“We are pleased to see that pet owners in the United
States have a high level of confidence in the food they feed
their dogs and cats,” said Duane Ekedahl, executive
director of PFI. “This level of satisfaction was earned
through the industry’s commitment to making safe and
nutritious products that help keep pet dogs and cats happy
and healthy throughout their lives.”
PFI represents the companies that produce 97 percent of the
dog and cat food made in the United States. For more information,
