Celebrating Greyhounds Magazine (St. Paul, Minn.) won the Pro
Plan President’s Award for best publication of the year
and was named best single-breed magazine in the annual writing
competition held by the Dog Writers Association of America (Coatesville,
Pa.).
Dozens of other writers and artists whose work appeared in
newspapers, magazines, club publications and books picked
up awards during the DWAA banquet in February.
What the Dog Did: Tales From a Formerly Reluctant Dog Owner
by Emily Yoffe (Bloomsbury USA, New York) was named best general
interest book. The Havanese by Diane Klumb and Joanne Baldwin,
D.V.M. (Lulu.com, Raleigh, N.C.) was best single-breed book.
Irish Wolfhounds: A Complete Pet Owner’s Manual by Nikki
Riggsbee (Barron’s Educational Series Inc., Hauppauge,
N.Y.) was best single-breed pet guide. Dog Dictionary by Diane
Morgan (BowTie Press, Los Angeles) was best general reference
book. The Goldsteins’ Wellness & Longevity Program
by Dr. Robert Goldstein and Susan Goldstein (T.F.H. Publications
Inc., Neptune City, N.J.) was best care and health book.
Dog Fancy, published by Fancy Publications Inc. (Los Angeles),
was best all-breed magazine. Clean Run, published by Clean
Run Productions L.L.C. (Chicopee, Mass.), was best special
interest magazine. 2005 Dogs in Canada Annual, published by
Apex Publishing Ltd. (Etobicoke, Ontario), was best special
publication.
Jim Wallis, Pat Wallis and Tim Hartman won the broadcast
journalism award for “The World of Dogs Biography Series,
German Shepherds” on PBS.
Kathryn Monroe won the Eukanuba Canine Health Award for her
article “PWD Aggression: Can It Happen to You?”
in The Courier (Cambridge, Md.), the official magazine of
the Portuguese Water Dog Club of America.
Eve Adamson won the Hartz Mountain Senior Dog Award for her
article “Comforting the Terminally Ill” in Your
Dog, published by the Tufts University School of Veterinary
Medicine (North Grafton, Mass.).
Amy Fernandez won the Elsworth S. Howell Award for her magazine
series “Early Dog Shows” in Dogs in Review, published
