Multiple Awards at PIDA Conference
Coastal Pet Products Inc. (Alliance, Ohio) was named Supplier
of the Year for the second time in three years during the Pet
Industry Distributors Association’s 38th annual meeting
and management conference, held Feb. 8-11 in Indian Wells, Calif.
Super Pet (Elk Grove Village) and Kaytee Products Inc. (Chilton,
Wis.)—now operating as Kaytee/Super Pet, a Central Garden
and Pet company—were first and second runners-up.
The PIDA awards program recognizes manufacturers for specific
policies and practices that are distributor-friendly. PIDA
distributor members submit ballots rating 110 affiliate manufacturer
members on a five-point scale. The manufacturer accumulating
the highest average score in all categories wins the Supplier
of the Year Award.
Category winners were:
- Best sales staff/field support: Super Pet. Doskocil Manufacturing/Petmate
Pet Products (Arlington, Texas) and Coastal Pet Products tied
for second place.
- Best retail support at independent pet outlets: Coastal
Pet Products. Kaytee Products was second, and Midwest Homes
for Pets (Muncie, Ind.) was third.
- Order fulfillment and customer service: Coastal Pet Products.
Kaytee Products was second, and Flexi USA Inc. (Cincinnati,
Ohio) was third.
- Best overall distributor relationship: Coastal Pet Products.
Super Pet was second, and Kaytee Products was third.
PIDA also elected officers: Donald Fleming of Quality Pets
Inc. (Oklahoma City), president; Robert Merar of General Pet
Supply (Milwaukee), first vice president; Roger Johannigman
of Loveland Pet Products (Mason, Ohio), second vice president;
and Fred Schober of Super Dog Pet Food Co. (Leola, Pa.), secretary/treasurer.
Directors are: Rob Chouinard of Gardner Distributing Co.
(Billings, Mont.); Perry Parks of Wolverton Inc. (Lansing,
Mich.); Randy Reber of Animal Supply Co. (Federal Way, Wash.);
Jeff Sutherland of Central Garden and Pet Co. (Walnut Creek,
Calif.); and Mary Wyld of Wyld’s Wingdom (Norfolk, Va.).
PIDA’s 39th management conference and annual meeting
will be held Jan. 30-Feb. 2, 2007, at the St. Regis Monarch
Beach Hotel in Dana Point, Calif. [May 2006 PET AGE]
