Cat Writers’ Association Honors Fine Feline Writing
Dozens of outstanding cat-related articles, books and works in other media were honored recently in the annual writing competition held by the Cat Writers’ Association (Foster City, Calif.).
Cat Owner’s Home Veterinary Handbook 3rd Edition by Drs. Debra Eldredge, Delbert Carlson, Liisa Carlson and James Giffin (Howell Book House, Hoboken, N.J.) was best health and general care book. The Cat Owner’s Problem Solver by Margaret H. Bonham (T.F.H. Publications, Neptune, N.J.) was best training and behavior book.
Amy Shojai was honored for best newspaper column (“Petiquette” in the Herald Democrat, Sherman, Texas) and best audio presentation (“Pet Peeves: A Win-Winn Situation” on Pet Life Radio).
Several publications returned to the winners’ circle. Cat Fancy, published by Fancy Publications Inc. (Los Angeles), was best monthly magazine. Catnip, edited by Arden Moore and published by Tufts Media (Somerville, Mass.), was best national newsletter. Felinexpress.com, edited by Mary Anne Miller, was best online magazine.
Arnold Plotnick was named Friskies Writer of the Year.
Cat Tales, edited by Cimeron Morrissey, the regional newsletter of the homeless cat network, won the CWA President’s Award, sponsored by the Cat Fanciers’ Association.
Dusty Rainbolt won several CWA Special Awards for columns and articles, including her online column “Ask Einstein” and pieces published in Catnip. [April 2009 PET AGE]
