Coastal Honored
at PIDA Conference
Coastal Pet Products Inc. (Alliance, Ohio) was named Supplier
of the Year for the third time in four years during the Pet
Industry Distributor Association’s 39th annual meeting
and management conference, held Jan. 30-Feb. 2 in Dana Point,
Calif.
Natural Balance Pet Food Inc. (Pacoima, Calif.) was first
runner-up.
The PIDA awards program recognizes manufacturers for specific
policies and practices that are distributor-friendly. PIDA
distributor members submit ballots rating 106 affiliate manufacturer
members on a five-point scale. The manufacturer accumulating
the highest average score in all categories wins the Supplier
of the Year Award.
Category winners were:
• Best sales support/field support:
Coastal, Natural Balance, Rolf C. Hagen (USA) Corp. (Mansfield,
Mass.) and United Pet Group Inc. (Cincinnati) tied for first
place. The Greenies Co. (North Kansas City, Mo.) was cited
for most improvement.
• Best retail support at independent pet outlets:
Natural Balance. Zoo Med Laboratories Inc. (San Luis Obispo,
Calif.) was second. JW Pet Co. Inc. (Teterboro, N.J.) was
third. American Colloid Co. (Arlington Heights, Ill.) was
cited for most improvement.
• Best order fulfillment and customer service:
Coastal. JW Pet was second. Sun Seed Co. Inc. (Bowling Green,
Ohio) was third. The Greenies Co. was cited for most improvement.
The Greenies Co. won the Overall Most Improved Performance
Award for demonstrating the greatest overall improvement in
all three categories.
Phillips Feed & Pet Supply (Bath, Pa.) was named Distributor
of the Year. Pet Food Experts (Cumberland, R.I.) was first
runner-up.
PIDA’s 40th management conference and annual meeting
will take place March 4-8, 2008, at the Hyatt Regency Hill
