NDGAA Hosts 700 Groomers at Florida Event
Record-breaking high temperatures greeted groomers attending the 24th annual Fun in the Sun seminar and trade show, held Oct. 30-Nov. 1 in Celebration-Kissimmee, Fla., by the National Dog Groomers Association of America (Clark, Pa.).
More than 700 grooming professionals participated in competitions, seminars and a Halloween party, as well as buying opportunities offered by 70 exhibitors.
Irina Pinkusevich of the Merryfield School of Pet Grooming (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) won the Best in Show and Best All-Around Groomer titles in Division A. Both awards were sponsored by Double K Industries (Chatsworth, Calif.).
Pinkusevich also won first place in the Wag’n Tails Sporting Tournament, sponsored by Wag’n Tails Mobile Conversions (Granger, Ind.). Kendra Otto of The Barker Shop (Oswego, Ill.) won first place in Division A in the Andis Poodle Tournament, sponsored by Andis Co. (Racine, Wis.). Otto also won first place in the Groomers Mall Terrier Tournament, sponsored by The Groomer’s Mall (Midlothian, Va.).
Speakers included Jodi Murphy, who spoke about thinning shears and scissoring techniques; Kathy Sanders, on running a stress-free grooming shop; and Danelle German, discussing why “Cat Calls Are a Good Thing.” NDGAA also presented a workshop on what it takes to become a Certified Master Groomer.
