Dieter Hagen Marks 50 Years as ‘Face of Hagen’
When Dieter Hagen arrived in Canada to work for his brother Rolf, he never dreamed he’d be there half a century later—or that his brother’s bird seed business would grow into Rolf C. Hagen Inc., the largest privately owned specialty pet company in the world.
But that’s what happened. Dieter Hagen, who moved from Germany to Canada to join his brother’s business in 1959, recently celebrated his golden anniversary with Rolf C. Hagen (Baie d’Urfe, Quebec). Now considered by many to be the “face of Hagen,” he has been a familiar sight at trade shows for decades.
“Our business has grown because of the loyalty and trusting relationships we have established with both our suppliers and customers,” said Rolf Hagen, company founder. “My brother Dieter has been instrumental in building our company’s reputation for integrity. From day one he has been committed to helping our customers build their businesses, and this commitment has never wavered in 50 years.”
He’s also been a major force in the entrepreneurial story of the Hagen brothers, a group that also includes Horst Hagen.
“It all goes back to our commitment to supporting retailers,” Dieter Hagen said. “We believe that the Hagen Direct program will facilitate our goal of being nothing less than the best supply chain partner for our dealers. Although the specific means we use to reach this goal may be different at different times, the goal itself hasn’t changed in 50 years. And it won’t in the next 50 years either.”
