Pet Store Pro Adds Training Material for Owners and Managers
Pet Store Pro—the free, online training program by the Pet Industry Distributors Association (Bel Air, Md.)—is expanding its curriculum to include in-depth business information for store owners and managers.
The new material, added as a result of PIDA’s partnership with The Retail Owners Institute (Seattle), includes practical instruction on retail finance, inventory management and cash-flow control. Registered Pet Store Pro users also will get access to free how-to articles, online calculators customized for retailers, management guides and interactive tutorials.
The enhanced training program (www.petstorepro.com) will debut this month at Global Pet Expo in Orlando, Fla.
“These resources will help empower independent retailers to improve profitability by making informed business decisions,” said Steve King, president of PIDA. “PIDA and our distributor members are committed to giving our customers every tool we can to help survive today’s economy and plan for future success.”
Other changes prompted by user feedback include revisions to the reptiles material (now with separate sections on lizards, snakes and turtles and tortoises), new chapter tests that emphasize key content and better assess learning and the option to delete records for former employees.
Pet Store Pro launched in February 2008 to help employees learn the basic skills they need to succeed in a retail pet store. The brand-neutral content covers a wide range of topics, including basic pet care and maintenance, customer service, selling strategies and merchandising techniques.
