Winners
Petland Inc. (Chillicothe, Ohio) honored its best franchise
operators and employees during its annual trade show, held Oct.
21-24 in San Antonio. Winners included: • Stores of
the year: Karin and Brad Logan of Las Vegas, stores smaller
than 5,000 square feet (their second consecutive win in this
category); and Cindy and Todd Parks of Charlotte, N.C., stores
larger than 5,000 square feet.
• International store of the year: Glenda Stride of Grande
Prairie, Alberta (her second consecutive win in this category).
• Vanguard Awards for excellence in first-year operation:
Darcy and Donna Howen of Rockford, Ill.; Karin and Brad Logan,
for their store in Henderson, Nev.; Lauren Nie of Austin,
Texas; and Don Popham of Columbus, Ga.
• Nicholas Alexander Progress Awards for showing the most
improvement or dedication to progress: Tom and Patty Donovan,
and their children, Julie, John and Matt, of Columbus, Ohio;
Jessica Rook of Independence, Mo.; and Rene and Mike Sardina
of Janesville, Wis.
Quest Awards for the development of community service programs:
Ingrid and Cesar Cepeda of Brownsville and McAllen, Texas;
Jeff Frankel and Ed Steiner of Cicero, N.Y.; Lois and Steve
Gauntt of Racine, Wis.; Karin and Brad Logan; Marion and Michael
Oddo of Tinley Park, Ill.; and Cindy and Todd Parks.
James McFarland of Henderson, Nev., was named general manager
of the year. Dave Helmuth of Iowa City, Iowa, was sales manager
of the year. Stephanie Meister of Tinley Park, Ill., was inventory
control manager of the year. Eric Beckam of Lewisville, Texas,
was fish department manager of the year. Jessica Wehrli of
Omaha, Neb., was kennel manager of the year.
Shawna Thorne-Vojtkofsky of Novi, Mich., was pet counselor
of the year.
