APPMA Management Conference Is Big Success
It was worth the wait: The APPMA Management Conference, returning
after a five-year hiatus, got an enthusiastic thumbs-up rating
from attendees. The two-day event, sponsored by the American
Pet Products Manufacturers Association (Greenwich, Conn.), was
held Nov. 9-10 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las
Vegas.
Several top-notch speakers shared a wealth of information
on key issues facing today’s pet products professionals.
Standing room-only presentations included a look at the pet
industry from PetSmart’s perspective, by Tony Truesdale,
senior vice president of merchandising and supply chain for
the Phoenix-based company; and an overview of regulatory issues
facing the industry, by Bob Vetere, chief operating officer
and managing director of APPMA, and Marshall Meyers, executive
vice president of the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council
(Washington).
Other sessions covered topics ranging from global trends
and leadership techniques to public relations and export issues.
“We were thrilled with the response from our members,”
Vetere said. “We have received overwhelming feedback
that this was truly an event not to be missed. The conference
received high praise for its pertinent content, knowledgeable
speakers and networking events. There was a strong energy
shared by both attendees and speakers alike, and it was the
ideal forum for education and exchange of ideas. Most importantly,
attendees are passing on to us that the knowledge they gained
at the conference will provide a competitive edge in their
business operations.”
“I walked away from the conference with a much better
understanding of political factors affecting our industry,”
said Sean Rowe, president of Veterinary Ventures Inc. (Reno,
Nev.). “It truly opened my eyes to issues I was unaware
of. In some cases, for instance with export issues, I received
validation that I was making wise decisions. I also gained
some fantastic advice on leadership skills that I’ve
already put into practice. Overall this was a first-class
event.”
