Las Vegas is known as the Entertainment Capital of the World, but for three days last month, the biggest city in Nevada was transformed into the Pet Capital of the World. Presented by the World Pet Association, SuperZoo was held June 26-28 at Mandalay Bay Convention Center.

The Pet Age team converged on Las Vegas to attend the annual trade show, which included plenty of new offerings, such as the Pet Tech Center and Made in the USA Showcase. We pored over every aisle to learn about the products, from longtime favorites to those that were new on the market, being exhibited at more than 1,000 booths.

In addition to the vendors, there were several high-energy and knowledgeable speakers who educated attendees on a wide range of topics regarding retail strategies and the pet service industry. And the sight of colorful poodles was a sure sign that the SuperZoo grooming competitions included some of the most talented pet-styling professionals in the world.

This issue delivers content that is as varied as the products and educational seminars that were found at SuperZoo. We are pleased to introduce the newest class of ICON award winners. This year’s recipients were selected by a trio of industry leaders in their own right: Matrix Partners founder Don Tomala, Steve King of the Pet Industry Distributor’s Association and Beth Sommers of Pura Naturals Pet.

While the temperatures have been soaring this summer, that’s no reason to snooze on the fact that the winter holidays are the months when pet consumers spend the most. With that in mind, we’ve done the work for you by reporting the recent spending trends and speaking with pet retailers and industry experts, including store designer Tom Crossman, who share their advice on what pet owners might be looking for this upcoming winter holiday season.

Of course, pet products are what drive the industry, and we made sure to pack the July issue with products for every pet category. There’s a Stockroom section that features more than 70 of the most exciting products to hit the market, and another 10 products in both the Focus On spread and the holiday season gift guide.

At well over 100 pages, this edition of Pet Age delivers something for everyone. Whatever you’re interested in, we’ve got it. You just need to turn the page and continue reading. Enjoy!
