According to a report from San Francisco Business Times, the J.M. Smucker Co., which is the parent company of pet brands such as Rachael Ray Nutrish, Milk Bone and Nature’s Recipe, will be closing its San Francisco, California, office on October 31. Smucker originally acquired the office when it purchased Big Heart Pet Brands in 2015 for $6 billion. The closure will cause 100 layoffs, according to a notice that Smucker filed with California regulators, the Business Times says.

“We are consolidating five different offices dedicated to our pet food business, including the San Francisco office, into our corporate headquarters in Orrville, Ohio,” Smucker spokesman Ray Hancart told the San Francisco Business Times. “The decision to consolidate these offices into our corporate headquarters was made to ensure we have the best possible operating model for our company.”

According to the report, Smucker is having ongoing discussions with affected San Francisco employees, offering severance and outplacement services to those leaving the company.

“While the notice references the potential elimination of positions, we will continue to offer full-time roles to some of the employees that currently work out of the San Francisco office,” Hancart told the publication. “Discussions are ongoing, and we have been in regular communication with them about this decision.”
