IKEA Recalls LURVIG Water Dispenser for Pets Due to Suffocation Hazard

Effective immediately, IKEA is recalling the LURVIG water dispenser for pets due to risk for dogs and cats getting their heads stuck in the dome of the water dispenser with possible suffocation as consequence. IKEA urges customers to stop using the water dispenser and return it to any IKEA store for a full refund.

IKEA globally has received reports of two incidents where dogs got their heads stuck in the dome of the LURVIG water dispenser and suffocated. The product was sold at IKEA stores nationwide October 2017 through June 2018. The recall affects 16,700 units.

“At IKEA, the safety and security of our products is our top priority, which is why we have decided to recall the LURVIG water dispenser,” said Petra Axdorff, business area manager at IKEA of Sweden AB. “We are deeply saddened by these events and know that pets are important and loved family members for many of our customers.”

Customers should return their LURVIG water dispenser at any IKEA store or call IKEA Customer Service toll-free, 888-966-4532 for a full refund. Proof of purchase (receipt) is not required by IKEA for this recall.
