Tony de Vos, president and CEO of Cardinal Pet Care upgraded Cardinal’s offices and manufacturing plant to use 100 percent solar-powered energy in 2009.

De Vos and his company are also members of the American Solar Energy Society (ASES).

“2014 marks a major solar milestone for both organizations,” said de Vos. “This year is ASES’s sixtieth anniversary and it’s also Cardinal’s five year anniversary of running from 100 percent solar powered energy. We couldn’t have reached such an important energy-saving goal without the help of groups like ASES.”

Upgrading to solar power five years ago saved Cardinal so much money that the company was able to fully air condition its manufacturing plant and warehouse for workers. The work environment led to Cardinal winning the “Best Green Company To Work For in the San Gabriel Valley” award, presented by the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Pasadena Star News and Whittier Daily News.

“Cardinal has always taken extra steps to be environmentally astute—from our solar-powered facility to our natural pet products, to our recyclable packaging,” said de Vos. “We want to share what we’ve learned about green manufacturing with the rest of the industry. We support ASES not only as a member, but also by promoting their information on our Green website.”
