All-Glass Aquarium Co. Inc. (Franklin, Wis.),
a subsidiary of Central Garden & Pet Co.
(Walnut Creek, Calif.), sold its one millionth Mini Bow Aquarium
over the winter. The 2.5-, 5- and 7-gallon aquariums are sold
in complete kits with incandescent hood, Whisper filter, fish

Alpha Pro Tech (Nogales, Ariz.) reported
2004 fourth-quarter revenues of $6.4 million, up 5.7 percent
from $6.1 million for the year-earlier period. The company
manufactures disposable protective apparel and construction
supply weatherization products, as well as Unreal Lambskin

The Anxiety Wrap by Animals Plus L.L.C.
(Huntington, Ind.) received U.S. Patent No. 6,820,574 in February.
The stretchable fabric wrap, introduced in 2001, helps dogs

Beak Appetit (Albuquerque, N.M.) changed
its name to Gourmet Pet Supply Inc. The company
will use the Beak Appetit name exclusively for its avian products,
and add the Critter Cuisine name for its small animal foods.

Big Al’s Aquarium Supercenter opened
a 19,000-square-foot store in Tamarac, Fla., in March. A joint
venture of the Toronto-based Big Al’s chain and Aquarium
Retail Holdings (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), the store features
a 12-foot-round, 5,000-gallon predator tank with sharks and
other marine species and a livestock room that houses thousands

The Bramton Co. (Dallas) earned the Carpet
and Rug Institute’s Seal of Approval for Simple Solution
Stain & Odor Remover, signifying that the product effectively
removes stains without damaging carpet. The seal is awarded
to products that pass stringent tests administered by an independent,

Central Garden & Pet Co. (Walnut Creek,
Calif.) teamed with Major League Baseball’s Oakland
Athletics in March to promote responsible pet ownership and
highlight outdoor living. Upcoming promotions include Family
Fantasy Day With the A’s, in which fans can visit their
local pet and garden retailers for a chance to win signed
merchandise, opportunities to meet team members, on-field
access and a luxury suite; and season-long sponsorship of

Chateau-Animaux (Washington) recently launched
an affiliate program via its online store (www.chateau-animaux.com)
to raise funds for nonprofit animal welfare groups. Participating
groups can receive up to 15 percent commissions on sales made

Del Monte Foods Co. (San Francisco) reported
third-quarter net sales of $861.3 million, up 6.2 percent
from the year-earlier period, driven by higher volume from
new product introductions and higher pricing. In March, the
company was ordered to pay $3.6 million in damages to Mars
Inc. (McLean, Va.) related to patent infringement
on pet treats with soft centers. Del Monte is considering

Drs. Foster & Smith (Rhinelander, Wis.)
is opening a coral propagation facility this spring, and launching
LiveAquaria.com to provide reef hobbyists with a year-round

Flexi-Mat Corp. (Plainfield, Ill.) acquired
Global Pet Products Inc. (Winston-Salem,
N.C.) in February, and moved all its operations to Illinois.
Global Pet co-founders Sylvia Pickett and Carol Polk remain

GPC Pet Products (Muscatine, Iowa) added
two distributors for its World’s Best Cat Litter, Inobys

The Hartz Mountain Corp. (Secaucus, N.J.)

Kenilworth Media Inc. (Richmond Hill, Ontario)
acquired Pet Commerce magazine from August Communications
Inc. (Winnipeg, Manitoba) in March. Kenilworth will
incorporate Pet Commerce into its existing Pet Biz bimonthly
trade publication, turning it into a section highlighting
new products and trends within the Canadian pet industry.

Kim’s Pets (Raleigh, N.C.) and Companion
Ch’i L.L.C. (Cary, N.C.) raised more than $600
for Care for Animals, a nonprofit animal welfare organization,
through their first Pets Valentine’s Mixer. More than
70 singles attended with their canines, which enjoyed a heart-shaped

As part of its Pedigree Dogs Rule Adoption Drive, Pedigree
gave a year’s worth of dog food to the first 1,000 people
who submitted proof of adopting a dog Feb. 12-14, and donated
a year’s supply of food for one dog to each organizations

Petco Animal Supplies Stores Inc. (San Diego)
and the Petco Foundation (San Gabriel, Calif.)
presented checks totaling $46,000 to the San Diego Humane
Society during a recent telethon that raised nearly $220,000

Pethealth Inc. (Oakville, Ontario) gave
Andrew Sage of Oceanside, Calif., a $500 shopping spree at
Petco for being the 500,000th person to enroll his newly adopted
dog in the company’s ShelterCare Pet Insurance Program.

PetsMart Inc. (Phoenix) reported sales of
$934.3 million for the fourth quarter, up 11.2 percent from
$840 million for the year-earlier period, and net income of
$68.1 million, up 20.3 percent from $56.6 million for the
year-earlier period. However, the chain said it will restate
financial results for prior periods to correct its accounting
method for certain leases. The company expects lease accounting-related
charges to reduce earnings by approximately $4.8 million in
fiscal 2004, $4.5 million in fiscal 2003, $4.2 million in
fiscal 2002, $3.9 million in fiscal 2001 and $5.2 million

to allow retailers to order online, track their account and
shipments, download forms such as pricing sheets, find merchandising
ideas and more. In addition, the company now offers nine pre-assorted

for the Stinkiest Pet in America contest online through July
31. Winners, selected on the basis of 200-word stories, will

Sergeant’s Pet Care Products Inc.
(Omaha, Neb.) held a Doggie Bad Breath Contest in February
in conjunction with National Pet Dental Month, and awarded
a year’s supply of DentaFresh products to Ladybug, a
13-year-old greyhound, for having the worst dog breath in
Omaha. Two runners-up received gift baskets containing DentaFresh
