Natural Pet Products Boom
Americans spent more than $42.8 billion on natural and organic products in 2003, according to research published in the June issue of The Natural Foods Merchandiser, a trade publication serving the natural and organic products industry.
Natural product sales increased 8.1 percent across all sales channels, including supermarkets, mass marketers, direct marketers and the Internet. Sales of organic products rose 19 percent in natural product stores.
Some of the healthiest gains came from sales of organic pet products, which increased 31 percent in 2003.
