WWPSA-ZZF Meet to Discuss Cooperative Efforts
In their first meeting since forming an international partnership,
the World Wide Pet Supply Association (Arcadia, Calif.) and
Zentralverband Zoologischer Fachbetriebe e.V. (Langen, Germany)
agreed to cross-promote their trade shows and to make it easier
for members to attend each other’s events.
WWPSA produces the SuperZoo trade shows and America’s
Family Pet Expo. ZZF, through its Wirtschaftsgemeinschaft
Zoologischer Fachbetriebe GmbH subsidiary, produces Interzoo
and publishes ZZA magazine.
Association representatives, who met in January in Wiesbaden,
Germany, discussed marketing conditions in their respective
countries as well as important legal issues.
For example, ZZF officials explained the European attitude
toward animal welfare, the German Protection of Animals Act,
and reasons why some U.S. pet products are not successful
in Europe. For their part, WWPSA officials suggested that
international markets develop special recognition for products
that reflect proper pet care.
“This partnership is a good opportunity to sound out
the interests of the industry in the respective countries,”
said Klaus Oechsner, president of ZZF. “Thus, both organizations
are able to take them into account in their commercial activities
and can offer their respective clients more and better services.”
“As a global association serving a global industry,
World Wide Pet Supply Association is constantly on the lookout
for new opportunities for our members and the industry at
large,” said Rick Newman, president of WWPSA. “This
partnership is an important step toward better understanding
and deepening relationships with foreign markets, and for
opening doors to more business internationally for both organizations.”
